Splashin' Rose

This is our one-year old baby born on Mother's Day 2008. I just liked this picture and wanted to share it with you. We call her Rosie and she is quite inquisitive.

From Chickies to Chickens

In 8 short weeks, our chickies have grown into roosters and hens. Soon.....very soon.......they will be delicious and delectable recipes. Ummmm.....Brandi's favorite! The hens will be spared to produce eggs and one rooster will survive. I suspect it will be him.

Meet Curly, Moe and Larry

We have added to our little farm. We are raising these for some friends who like a good lamb chop, leg of lamb, rack of lamb, you get it, right? What's a farm without horses, cows, chickens, and sheep! This is sweet little Curly. The other two kept picking on him and he already has a bum leg:

And this is Moe and Larry:

Happy Birthday "Tinker" Belle

We drove to Colby, KS to celebrate Ron's mom's 80th birthday. She had a good day and was able to spend the afternoon with us. Here is Ron, Ray, Donnie (Barb's brother) and "Tinker" Belle.

Amy (Barb and Ray's daughter) came from San Antonio, TX to celebrate. Here are cutie pies, Truman and Hadley having a good time.

My Shoe Wardrobe....

This is my current wardrobe of farm shoes. Problem is they get stuck in the mud, do not tread water and take forever to dry out.

Yes folks, I have given up the heels for flats. These are much more comfy, priced right ($11) and repel water and muck (that's a mixture of manure and uck)! It only took me ten years to finally purchase my own pair, but well worth the investment. I can trudge out in the manure, and not worry about the liquid escaping into my tennis shoes. I blame Ron...that's right. He has kept the secret all these years. I finally wised up to his shoe fashion and decided to purchase my very own pair. Aren't they beautiful? They only come in fashionable black. Soft toe. I LOVE them! Big R Farm Store is quickly becoming my favorite shopping place.

Snow in June?

No not really, it just looks like it. These are prairie flowers that only bloom every two years with the right weather conditions. They are all over the Pawnee Grasslands and at our neighbors ranch. The hills are alive with them.

Calf a Month Program

Look what we just had:

Yes, we seem to have them spread out. Normally you would have all your babies around the same time (Febuary, March, April); however, we had a few late ones. Maude had her baby today around 1:30 p.m. Right before Ron had to go to work. I was glad he was home. It is a little bull calf. It has been raining today and a muddy mess. Of course, Maude decided it would be the day to deliver.

It sure doesn't take long for them to get up, balance and start nursing. Mother Nature is amazing!

We have another one due in July. Char is due around the 1st of the month. Maybe we will have a 4th of July baby!
